R.I.P. Louis Jourdan, star of Octopussy and Gigi, dead at 93

Actor Louis Jourdan has died at the age of 93. Variety confirms that the French-born actor passed away Saturday at his Beverly Hills home.

Jourdan is best remembered for his role as the villainous Kamal Khan in the 1983 James Bond film Octopussy, as well as portraying Gaston Lachaille in the 1958 Oscar-winning musical comedy Gigi.

Jourdan got his start in American cinema in the 1947 Alfred Hitchcock film The Paradine Case, and followed that appearance a year later with the renowned Letter from an Unknown Woman. Other notable roles include the bad guy Dr. Anton Arcane in Wes Craven’s Swamp Thing and its sequel The Return of Swamp Thing, Can Can opposite Frank Sinatra and Shirely MacLaine, and The Swan with Grace Kelly.

He also starred in numerous TV shows and movies, including televised adaptations of The Man in the Iron Mask, The Count of Monte-Cristo, and Count Dracula. Jourdan also starred in the 1955 series Paris Precinct, and appeared on shows such as Studio One in Hollywood, The F.B.I., and Columbo, and he even voiced a bad guy (Devil Bear / Chuck) in an episode of Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo.

Jourdan’s wife Berthe Frederique died last year, and their son, Louis Henry, died in 1981 of a drug overdose.
